Suggestions & Reviews for Michael E TOAFF MD
Shunda C (Patient) 09-22-2014
In 2007 I had fibroid that increase my uterus size to about 8 months pregnant. Every doctor I talked to told me that I would need a hysterectomy. I was also told by one that if he tried to do a myomectomy that he would need large volumes of blood because of the blood that I would lose during the procedure. I found Dr. Toaff on the internet and I truely believe GOD guided me to him. When I talked to him he reasured me that I would not need a hysterectomy and said he would keep my uterus in tact since I wanted to have children someday. He removed 14 fibroids and I didn't need a transfusion and went home 3 days later. Today it's 2014 and I have an 11 month old daughter. She is beautiful healthy and when I was pregnant with her I had absolutley no problems. I called to thank him but he told me he was retired and I am so happy and so glad that he save my uterus and that GOD put him in my life. It you read this; thank you again Dr. Toaff. My little girl is here because of you and your brillance. God bless you and know that you made a difference and touched so many lives.

Dr. Toaff is the best doctor I have encountered in my life. He knows what he is talking about and he does what he promised.

I am 43, starting from Apil, 2012, I suffered from adenomyosis and ended up in ER a couple times due to severe blood loss. I visited numerous OBG doctors in San Francisco bay area. The only suggestion I got was "hysterectomy", while it was the last option I would consider. Thanks for the internet, I found Dr. Toaff. After leaving a message, he called me the very next day, based on my description and medical record, he assured me it was a typical case of adenomyosis, I will need adenomyomectomy but not hysterectomy! Still I had a millions of question back then, it didn't take him long to clear all my thoughts using his knowledge and intelligence. After talking with a few of his previous patients, I set up my pre-surgery exam on August. 21 and surgery on Aug. 22.

Things got easier after then, Dr. Toaff help me take care of everything related to the surgery and even help me resolve the insurance issue. All I needed to worry about was to book the air tickets.

The rest was as expected and better than expected, the surgery went so smooth and so did the recovery. I was told my uterus size was about 16-weeks pregnancy and would be normal size after the sugery. Now four months later, my period was minimum to none. I almost forgot how much I suffered before. Thank you, Dr. Toaff.

In spring 2000 I was told by a local Michigan gynecologist that I had endometrial, and possibly uterine and/or ovarian cancer. She recommended an immediate hysterectomy and told me another surgeon would be standing by to remove lymph nodes throughout my upper and lower body to see if the cancer had spread. A young friend told me about Dr. Michael Toaff and I found his web site and sent him an email. He called me the next day and spent about 30 minutes on the phone with me. He told me if the doctor was right, he would have to do the same surgery she recommended. But he invited me to Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania for examination, and as a result, I stayed. My pre-op exam was the most thorough I ever had anywhere, and I have been treated at some of the foremost hospitals in the country in the past. He did surgery, and he found two huge fibroid tumors, one so large that they were interfering with my intestinal function, and the other on the internal wall of the uterus that increased the size of my utuerus to that of the size of a woman at lesat 5 months pregnant. He removed my uterus, removed the tumors, reconstructed my uterus and sewed it back into my body. I left the hospital 3 days later, flying back to my home in Michigan. After care was managed by my primary physician. I have been well ever since! No cancer, no hysterectomy, and a loss of 70 pounds within about 3-4 months, as the tumors were fat-storing tumors, and once they were gone, my weight loss efforts became successful! I can never thank Dr. Toaff enough for the crusade he has been on for a lifetime, trying to preserve sexual function and sexuality for women who would otherwise have unnecessary hysterectomies to solve problems that don't require them, because insurance companies will pay for that and not for surgery needed to take care of reproductive-related surgeries that don't require the hysterectomy. And by the way, my insurance paid for most of the procedure, but not for the uterine reconstruction, which was the most important factor in saving me from the hysterectomy. I never got a bill for that from the doctor. I am forever grateful for his kindness, his care, and most of all, his gifted medical ability he used to make my life better for the last 11 years. God bless you, Dr. Toaff.

My life is so much better after undergoing pelvic repair surgery with Dr. Toaff. He is not only a gifted surgeon, but is also very compassionate and understanding. He always made himself avaliable when I had questions or concerns. I'm 45 and had a prolapsed uterus and all the symptoms that go with it- pelvic pressure and pain, feeling of something falling out, and loose vagina. Now I feel all tightened and put back together, have no more pain, and sex is much better. It is major surgery and it took me weeks to recover, but it was definitly worth it. I'm so glad I chose this route instead of the hysterectomy my gynecologist recommended.

I cannot thank Dr. Toaff enough for saving my reproductive organs. He is a caring doctor and a truly gifted surgeon. I went to Dr. Toaff because I was seeking an alternative to hysterectomy and oophorectomy. I had massive, painful adhesions throughout my pelvic region which Dr. Toaff meticulously removed while sparing my ovaries, uterus, and cervix. My 3-hour surgery was performed laparoscopically, as an outpatient procedure, at Bryn Mawr Hospital. Dr. Toaff has pioneered several techniques in resolving gynecological conditions without hysterectomy. In addition to having advanced laparoscopy skills, Dr. Toaff is skilled in microsurgery. His web site, "Alternatives to Hysterectomy", has detailed information on case studies to include complex ones involving diseases such as, Pelvic Inflammatory Disease, Endometriosis, Uterine Prolapse, Adenomyosis, and Fibroids. I highly recommend Dr. Toaff. He truly understands the role that a woman's reproductive organs play in her overall health and wellbeing. As a result of this level of understanding, Dr. Toaff works very hard to preserve those important organs.

I would highly recommend visiting Dr. Toaff's web site, "Alternatives to Hysterectomy" althysterectomy.org .

Dr. Toaff is a very caring, trustworthy and educated man that specializes in treating gynecological disorders. I had my own personal experience with him after dealing with years of endometriosis and most recently heavy debilitating periods. He performed surgery on me using a special technique which he created and now I am pain free and also I do not have the debilitating periods anymore. He truly is a wonderful Dr. and I recommend him highly.
