I recommend Dr Bitan as he is a confident assuring spinal surgeon who certainly knows his field and has an extensive background from my research of him. In June of this year ( 2011)
he performed a Anterior Fusion of the L5/S1. He did this anterior approach because previously over 32 years, I had 2 laminectomies on the same disc, approximately 16 years apart. Dr Bitan felt that doing a posterior approach could be problematic and more discomfiting of a recovery due to the previous back surgeries and scaring on the MRI.
I'm now not quite 4 months out. I'm well healed, I now wake up with no back pain for the first time in many many years. As with any surgery, especially a fusion, I know I can expect further healing, though there isn't much more I need. Dr Bitan has a good sense of humor, followed up after surgery to help with any issues and I now do not have to see him at this point again.
