I've seen Dr. Rivera for several years now. He identified and treated me for Low-T, removed a small absess and successfully repaired a groin and belly-button hernia. Overall, I'm happy with his services.
His offices are clean and comfortable. He has very nice staff who make you feel very comfortable. I've never waited in his waiting room for more than 10 minutes. You do have to wait quite a while to get an appointment.
Dr. Rivera doesn't communicate clearly all the time. I've had a couple of times where my prescription was messed up. For example, I asked for the Androgel Pump System and he ordered me the Squeeze Packets. He told me that he would give me one prescription amount and the prescription had a different amount. These are annoying, but not show-stoppers for me. Before surgery, it wasn't 100% clear whether he was going to do both hernias or one until I woke up with both done.
I also do not feel like he has adequately addressed my prostrate problems. We tried a couple of treatments, but I didn't feel confident that he was up to speed on treating swollen prostrate problems such as inadequate bladder emptying and slow flow problems. He prescribed a low-dose sedative for example, which chilled me out a bit, but didn't exactly treat my problem. The second thing we tried was FLO-Max, but we only did it for a short period of time and I'm sorry, but I just couldn't tell if it helped or not. The testosterone actully seemed to help my flow problems somewhat, so I didn't persue it further.
This seems to look like a negative recommendation, but I think Dr. Rivera is a good doctor overall. His surgery was first-rate. I am a big fat guy taking Tae-Kwon-Do with my son and I am back jumping and kicking like Kung-Fu Panda and my hernia hasn't given me ANY further problems.
So, definitely see Dr. Rivera, if you live in Calvert County and need any kind of Urological procedure; he's outstanding at those. However, make him double check his prescriptions and make him super explain any prostrate plans he comes up with.
