My gynecologist of almost thirty years retired. After seeing the same doctor for such a long time, it is very hard to find another that you can put your trust in. He was the only gynecologist I ever had and he knew all my problems with my reproductive system which I had since the very beginning of my monthly cycles and he was also the doctor who delivered my son.
When he retired he referred his patients to a doctor that I only saw one time...and that was enough for me to know he would not be my new gynecologist. I knew I was having more problems and was concerned that a hysterectomy was the answer but this doctor was just too willing and was going to be able to do the surgery within the month.
I made an appointment with Dr. Steier early in 2011 for a second opinion. She did an ultrasound and confirmed that a hysterectomy was probably the best solution but she did NOT try to rush me into surgery. She suggested we try all the other possible treatments first. There were several options out there but I had already tried one which turned out to work only temporarily, was not a candidate for one, opted out of one because of stories I had heard, etc., so this narrowed the treatment options. We tried these but they did not help. So finally, between her suggestions and my thinking and reading about the surgery, and my scheduling issues, it took almost 1-1/2 years before I took the plunge. She would have done the surgery before this but she also wanted to make sure I was completely ready (this was not an emergency) and she wanted to be sure I understood everything. I appreciate her knowledge, patience, and the way she explained everything (in the office and at the hospital). She is very pleasant and has a great 'bedside manner'.
My husband was skeptical and worried about my having this surgery until he met Dr. Steier. He was impressed with her. Then there was a delay getting the surgery under way and since he thought it was taking too long, he was very nervous but he was fine after the surgery when he talked with Dr.Steier and she explained everything to him in terms we 'non-doctors' can understand.
She studied in Washington DC and Virginia and did her residency and internship at Vanderbilt. She has served as Chief of Staff and Chief of OB-GYN Dept at Hendersonville Medical Center and has been there for twelve years.
I highly recommend Dr. Steier and feel confident my husband would as well.
