Dr Emily Dungan Cline is my GYN and was the surgeon who performed my TAH. After a routine ultrasound was ordered to help with underlying back pain issues, I met Dr Cline for the first time for an GYN exam. Until then, my annual exams were completed by the Nurse Practitioner. Dr Cline knew that her diagnosis wasn't an easy one -- having to tell me my uterus was non-mobile, enlarged, fibroid filled and a bikini-cut hysterectomy was recommended upon our first encounter. I didn't feel pressured to accept this diagnosis immediately. She listened to my immediate questions and provided me with information to read thru. I was invited to return to her for discussion once I had time to take it all in.

My return visit was still without pressure. Dr. Cline sat with me for about a half hour (which for doctors is a LONG time with one patient), taking the time to ensure all my questions were answered, that I understood the diagnosis / ultrasound, why I wasn't a candidate for laproscopic, how the procedure would take place. I felt immediate trust with her and her knowledge. She made me feel comfortable with her immediately. Although I inquired and was welcomed to a second opinion, reviewing the ultrasound with me and discussing in details the location / size of my issues put me at ease with her knowledge and recommendations. I knew at that point, I trusted her 100%.

Dr. Cline is a board certified MD and highly experienced in multiple surgical styles. She is skilled in laproscopic but her greater skill is her ability to tell you in easy to understand ways why she is proposing what kind of surgery for your individual needs. I found Dr. Cline to be analytical when I wanted details and her experience of surgery to be explained to me but also reassuring and trustworthy when I needed to be comforted that I was going to be ok. This was my first surgery ever and Dr. Cline was wonderful at keeping it light when available yet informative when needed. This blend of seriousness & laughter is VERY appreciated when faced with a scary situation (as the patient) that they do routinely.

Follow-ups were completed with Dr. Cline. While in the hospital, Dr Cline had a couple of days off but she ensured that I was covered by the co-surgeon from her office, Dr. Norris. I had never met him until postOp but his warm compassionate nature was immediately calming. Office visit at 2wks and 6wks are with her personally. This allows trust to build that you are taken care of by the same person from start to finish.

Thus far, my recovery is proceeding without incident. My incision was ABSORB internal staples with Dermabond glue. The incision line is flat and healing nicely. I credit Dr. Cline and her team with a quick, uneventful, complication free surgical procedure.
