On January 4, 2016 I was diagnosed with uterine cancer and referred to Dr Stefanie Ueda for a hysterectomy. Dr Ueda is a Gynecologic Cancer Surgeon who performed a total hysterectomy without complications using, the DaVinci robotic method, on me on April 15, 2016. She practices at UCSF in San Francisco, CA at the Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center.
Prior to my first appointment with Dr Ueda I was given a wonderful student volunteer who helped me and my sister brainstorm a list of questions to present to Dr Ueda. She was present to record my appointment with Dr Ueda and gave me a CD copy of the entire interview which I was able to listen to later. Sometimes in an appointment it is not always easy to remember everything that is said. The CD made it so much easier to absorb the details that might have been forgotten. I mention this because her help in facilitating my understanding of the process was invaluable and completely unexpected.
Dr Ueda, her staff, and the staff of UCSF Medical Center are exemplary caregivers. I would recommend them to anyone seeking treatment for gynecologic cancer. Her professionalism, level of compassion, and forthright explanation of my treatment options was exceptional.
Besides being an accomplished surgeon, Dr Ueda has received many honors and recognition for her pioneering work in Uganda to bring improved cancer care and surgical training to Uganda's Mulago Hospital and Makerere University.
