In March of 2005, I flew 3000 miles from New Jersey to undergo a hysterectomy performed by Dr. Samimi. I chose Dr. Samimi because he is an innovative surgeon who pioneered a unique method of performing an open hysterectomy. The technique know as "intrastromal abdominal" or "gentler hysterectomy" is less painful and less bloody than the traditional open hysterectomy performed by the vast majority of ob/gyns in this country. As fate would have it, the surgery turned out to be far more complicated and invasive than anybody could have anticipated. In addition to the obvious diagnosis:fibroids with a very enlarged uterus, Dr. Samimi discovered a six pound retroperitoneal mass that was causing secondary hypertension. A less talented surgeon would probably have closed me up and referred me to another surgeon following the hysterectomy. Fortunately, Dr. Samimi along with a colleague in urology worked tirelessly for over 6 hours to correct this unforeseen issue. Although I had to be cut vertically (generally considered to be more painful than the preferred horizontal incision)recovery was a breeze. The pain was minimal and after the third post-operative day, I was well enough to sight see! In addition to being a gifted surgeon, Dr. Samimi is friendly, caring and compassionate. Whats more, Dr. Samimi's two assistants treat patients in a caring, considerate and respectful manner. In short, I would recommend Dr. Samimi and his staff in the most enthusiastic of terms!
