I have had 2 recurrences with ovarian cancer and I am a very complex case because of scar tissue which makes surgery dangerous. Dr. Soper performed my surgery in March to debulk my cancer and he was great. He is so good at what he does and I feel as so safe with him. So glad i found him.

Dr. Soper saved my life after he accurately diagnosed me with a malignant molar pregnancy, performed my hysterectomy, and then managed my 10 weeks of chemotherapy. He is brilliant but not over my head, thorough but not obsessive, and compassionate without being patronizing. His calm demeanor contributed to my lack of anxiety going into surgery. I trusted him completely from start to finish, and everything went exactly as he predicated it would. He made sure that I understood what was going to happen and why, and he was supportive and positive every step of the way. He is, quite simply, THE BEST, and he has an excellent team, as well.

Dr Soper recently preformed surgery on me for removal of a presacral mass, and a total Hysterectomy at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill. I had been to no less than 5 surgeons prior to finding him , all of which said it was "Out of their scope of expertise." I was scheduled for surgery and had a last minute snafu, as I am a Tricare patient , and we are by default sent to the hospital on base. Upon speaking to the Chief of OBGYN Oncology at Womack Army Hospital (Dr Sundborg), I was referred to Dr Soper and his team. Come to find out Dr Sundborg is personal friends with Dr Soper , and despite the fact that Womack NOW has the capability to do said surgery, I was given the choice of which facility I would prefer.
I am so glad I went with the original plan and went to UNC and Dr Soper. The robot assisted procedure went off like a breeze, and I couldn't be more pleased with the outcome !!
I found that UNC Hospital staff where not only friendly and knowledgeable, but they worked together to make even the pre-op experience flow with minimal waiting/return visits.
Dr Soper has surrounded himself with a great team, and I would HIGHLY recommend him and the entire crew at UNC Hospital .

I would recommend Dr. Soper to anyone who wants a caring, knowledgeable, competent physician.

My name is Angela Stone and I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer at the age of 18. I received chemo for three months after a complete hysterectomy. 6 months later I had another non-cancerous tumor removed. I recovered totally and went to college at the University of Virginia and obtained my undergraduate degree in Psychology. 9 years later, I had a liver tumor removed, and it was discovered that I had a condition called tissue retroconversion; for some reason I was prone to non-cancerous tumors. Dr. Soper was there through it all, explaining everything to me and being postive despite my fears. In 2007,when I had an intestinal blockage due to scar tissue, he performed the surgery--on a Saturday. When I had my gall bladder, spleen, and part of my diaphragm removed in 2009, he came to check on me and my family.

I am now 43 years old. Since my first chemo in 1985, the cancer has never returned. 7 surgeries and almost 25 years later I am still here. God gave me a special doctor when he sent me to Duke all of those years ago. He sent me Dr. John T. Soper, the doctor who saved my life.

I highly recommend Dr. Soper. I met him in December 2008 at the UNC Women's Specialty Clinic at Rex. Being diagnosed with cancer at the age of 25 (or any age for that matter) is a very scary thing. Dr. Soper was very supportive. He takes the time to explain things to you and encourages you to ask questions. I never felt like he was too busy to talk to me. He performed my hysterectomy at UNC Hospital. Since my surgery I have seen him at both UNC and Rex. I just finished undergoing chemo and radiation. He remained in contact with both me and the other doctors throughout my treatment. I never felt like I was going through it alone. Dr. Soper would be my recommendation to anyone who needs a gynecologic oncologist in NC.

Dr. Soper has treated me this year for stage 1c ovarian cancer. He is so wonderful. I feel that with God's help he is my only hope for cure. I don't feel like I could be in any better hands. He also took care of my cousin 30 years ago for a malignant molar pregnancy and not only did she survive, she has had 2 children and has been cancer free ever since. He is absolutely the physician to go to for any ob/gyn cancer. He and his staff are the most compasionate people I have ever met. I could not do this without them. Sherry Baker

When I was diagnosed in 2003 with invasive cervical cancer, my gynecologist told me iI had "very bad cancer" and I truly thought I was going to die at 46 years old. Fortunately, she referred me to Duke, where I met the man who saved my life: Dr. John Soper. He was brilliant, kind, professional, had a wonderful "bedside manner" and a great smile. Radical hysterectomy, (cancer in 4 lypmph nodes), chemo, radiation; Dr. Soper was there through it all...supportive, comforting, thorough, honest and most of all ENCOURAGING. He always told me what I needed to know and answered my questions without hesitation. He is no longer at Duke, so I will be seeing him in July 2007 at UNC Womens' Clinic. Dr. Soper is such an intelligent, phenomenal and caring doctor that for the first time in my entire life I don't dread visiting a doctor for a pap smear. I look forward to seeing Dr. Soper. He saved my life. I've met other women who believe they would have not survived cancer without him. I feel confident in saying Dr. Soper is the best gynecological oncology surgeon in the country. I strongly recommend Dr Soper to any woman with gynecological cancer of any type. He is absolutely brilliant and an incredible doctor!!

Dr. John Soper is my gyn/oncologist and has been since I was diagnosed with endometrial cancer in 2002. He was with Duke Hospital when I had my hysterectomy but is now with the NC Womens Hospital. Dr. Soper is an amazing man. He is kind, friendly, has a sense of humor and he knows his stuff. I had complications and had to be resuscitated twice. Dr. Soper saved my life, plain and simple. I couldn't recommend anyone more highly than I do this man. I respect him very much and I feel that he returns that respect. I never feel rushed when I see him and he comes in the exam room prepared, having read my chart beforehand. I can't say enough good about Dr. Soper. You won't go wrong with him.

Dr. John Soper is the man! He is with the University of North Carolina Health Care Center. He is a knowledgable and skilled gyn/oncologist who came highly recommended by the oncologist treating me for ovarian cancer. He is a friendly, cheerful man with an upbeat attitude and a sense of humor. We discuss my health concerns, he gives his prognosis and then follows-up with my oncologist. You may have to wait six months to get an appointment, but once you are in you get 100% of his attention.

Dr. Soper performed my hysterectomy after my diagosis of cervical cancer. Dr. Soper has wonderful, dry sense of humor and was able to make me laugh at every visit, and still does! He is gentle, truthful, honest, calming, and gifted. He tells it like it is. I owe him my life and am so lucky to have had him as my physician.
