I first saw Dr. Watts after four years of unexplained abdominal/pelvic area pain. I had seen 4 gynecologists in 3 states, two hospital visits for excruciating pain, an exploratory laparoscopy and 3 years of "just making it through the day" by Lortab. Every time I went to a doctor/hospital they couldn't determine what my problem was and sent me home with pain pills. They made me feel that it was all in my head. I hate taking pain pills - you hear all about addiction all the time so I would only take the pills if I was flat down unable to walk or function. Several times I would be going along and the pain would be so sharp that it literally brought me to my knees. I hated to go to the hospital or doctor because there was never a reason for the pain and I had been told that there was no other test or course of action... I had done it all and there was still no explaination for the pain.
When I saw Dr. Watts, he took the time to listen to all of my issues, what tests I'd had and how I hated to have any more tests because I didn't want anyone else scratch their head and say "I don't know". He was not rushed to get out of the room to the next patient. Dr. Watts wanted to perform one other diagnostic test - a veinogram. This entailed a sort of iv into the uterine wall, and injecting dye. Then the radiologist would look at the veins in the pelvic area. It really was a magical moment when Dr. Watts came back from consulting w/the radiologist and told me that my problem was called "Pelvic Congestion". I was NOT crazy! There was a reason for my pain! He also explained the reasons why my previous doctors did not discover this in previous surgery.
Dr. Watts did not make me come back to his office for another office visit to get the results of that test like 99% of doctors do. He took an extra 45 minutes with me right there at the hospital radiology department and discussed the 3 options I had. I was given time to think about what I wanted to do. Of course I chose to try to avoid surgery. Dr. Watts supported my decision and 9 months later when things were not better, he again outlined my options very clearly. He did not tell me "You have to do this"... he gave me all the information on all options and told me I needed to be the one who came to a decision myself. I took another month to think, and Dr. Watts returned my calls in person when I had additional questions. When I decided to have a hysterectomy, Dr. Watts gave me several great websites to find more information. He also coordinated my care with a general surgeon to take my diseased gallbladder out on the same day/same operating room.
Dr. Watts is a very caring and intelligent doctor. His medical knowledge is wide and includes obscure medical problems. My story didn't end w/surgery. On the day of my surgery, after I went under anesthesia, Dr. Watts noticed that a mole I had down in an unmentionable area had changed. Because this was not in my consented surgical plan D...
