When I look back at that time in my life I realize how much was out-of-my-hands. I have had Endometriosis for 5 years now. However, there is one big catch to my diagnosis. When I was in high school no doctor’s I had seen knew what Endometriosis was. As of today not too many doctors in the area are still qualified to treat a patient suffering from this condition. I didn’t even know what it was until my third year suffering undiagnosed with the condition. I was daily in severe pain. No one from family to doctors was even reasonably understanding of my health and truly everyone including my own parent’s though I was a hypochondriac. Yet hemorrhaging for months at a time, being anemic, and on many days being in soo much pain I was unable to move from my bed still got me no support or understanding. I was a bipolar-depressed person who was looking for attention according to the 8 doctor’s I can think of seeing, at this moment. Of course once it is written in your medical chart by one doctor and the next doctor gets your medicals records for second opinions, yada-yada, it’s the easy way out for the doctor’s to write you off as that “abused train-wreck who just needs an hour a week with a shrink to heal her body and her traumatic childhood.”

I went into my first of many surgeries in March of 1996 to check my uterus to see what was going on after I read a pamphlet in a doctor’s waiting room. The pamphlet described me to a tee. What were Dr. Colodny’s results from that surgery? Nothing. I suffered even worse for another undiagnosed year until I got sick of the small-town doctors in Franklin County, Massachusetts. I went to Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts to see a doctor who had extensive experience with Endometriosis. I saw Dr. Cline of Boston OB/GYN, she ended years and years of suffering, distress and wondering and confusion.

DR. CLINE performed a Pelivscopy and diagnosed me with “Stage II Endometriosis w/ adhesions and scarring. Besides all the physical pain of surgery August 11, 1997 was one of the greatest days of my life. It was great I finally had answers, but what about the memorable years I have endured while over 6 doctors drugged me with Percocet, Vicodin, Duract, and plenty of referrals to seek counseling to work through issue they insinuated time after time I had. I still have them filed in a dusty box in the back of my mind labeled “FOR SANITY SAKE, DO NOT OPEN!”

I THANK GOD for the break from the suffering and distress I once suffered on a daily basis. Dr. Cline was the doctor who taught me that Endometriosis can be treated with pregnancy. It changes the hormonal chemicals in your body long enough for existing adhesions to heal. At least that was what research had stated in 1997.
