I developed a vesicovaginal fistula following an abdominal hysterectomy in January. After an unsuccessful vaginal VVF repair porocedure in March 2007, I was referred to a pelvic floor reconstruction specialist. I saw Dr. Brandes, who is a urologic surgeon at Washington University Medical School Physicians/Barnes Jewish Hospital. He specializes in fistula repair and pelvic floor reconstruction. He gave me options and when I had questions, actually called and spoke with me extensively about the surgical procedures and helped me make the right decision. He is easy to talk to and really wants to improve the quality of life for his patients. He explains things in terms the lay person can understand. He did an amazing job on a complex and extensive procedure and fixed my fistula with an abdominal procedure in September 2007. I highly recommend him for VVF repair. When considering a second opinion, I called for another physician recommended on this site and was directed to Dr. Brandes because the VVF repair is his specialty. I'm am so glad I made the appointment with him because I'm on my way to full recovery after almost 8 months of near total incontinence at age 44!. He gets a 10 out of 10 for overall care and professionalism.
