I was referred to Dr. Travias by my regular gynecologist 2 years ago to be evaluated for a possible hysterectomy due to fibroids/excessive bleeding. Dr. Travias was fantastic - I just can't say enough good things about him. He was very patient with me, offered suggestions for making my decision (hysterectomy vs. trying different drug therapies or just suffering with the symptoms for a few more years until menopause). I ultimately chose the hysterectomy, and I am so happy I did. Dr. Travias has a very gentle and understanding manner - I never felt rushed or pressured to make a particular decision. He offered me the option of thinking about the options for a while rather than making an immediate decision, but I was more than ready to rid my body of this "alien uterus" that was making me so miserable. After having my pelvic exam and making the decision to go with surgery, I requested that he perform a trans-vaginal hysterectomy if possible to minimize recovery time. He immediately repeated the pelvic exam to evaluate this option, then explained that it probably would not be possible due to the large size of my uterus and the fibroids. Once again, he took plenty of time to explain the differences between the 2 types of surgical approach, and gave me ample time to ask questions. Despite his initial opinion, he assured me that he would make the final decision at the time of surgery, and would go with the trans-vaginal approach if at all possible. As it turned out, I needed the "traditional" surgery, but I really felt like Dr. Travias and I were working together - not like he was just dictating what needed to be done. The surgery went great, recovery wasn't bad, and his follow-up was fantastic. Another plus - almost no visible scar - he must be a plastic surgeon in his free time! So - if you are in the northeastern Mass. area, check out Dr. Travias - he operates at Emerson hospital in Concord and his office is across rt. 2 in the ORNAC building. I have also come across several other women he has treated for various conditions including but not limited to hysterectomies - every one of them shared my opinion.
