This doctor is smart & skillful. He listens to patients concerns & works with them. The surgery was very successful. He was able to preform davinci surgery when others said this was not an option. I am very grateful this surgeon was recommended to me. Office staff (Amber) were very helpful.

Yesterday was my first visit after being referred to Dr Sternin. While I agree with everyone, he was very nice. I did feel uncomfortable as it was our first meeting, I was naked, and after examination, "consultation" was while I was laying there in the sterups. I was told before hand how he would take his time with me and answer all my questions, however he did not have my medical records at the time of my visit, after back and forth a minimum of 4 times and 2 weeks between doctors offices to request records, I was assured that they would be there. He DID call me 2 hours later when they located my records, which was nice.. My biggest disappointment, especially after reading each and every blog here - that they were able to use the DiVinci robot to help precise cutting make tiny incisions and get back to work right away.....he right away told me NO he would have to make a huge incision cut to remove my uterine Fibroid, a complete hysterectomy which may or may not be cancerous. I am a heart patient, and his hospital does not specialize in heart issues. I was all gung ho on him at first my primary GYN told me it would only be ONE Day in the hospital now Dr Sternin is telling me 3-4 days and 6-8 weeks recovery. Does anyone know why or what the issues here could be? I only met him yesterday and I will meet him again with a list of questions and my CLOTHES ON to feel more comfortable. Yes I would recommend him, he was cheerful and happy and he himself was relaxed and confident that he COULD DO my surgery... I was excited reading all this positive feedback here but I just dont understand WHY I CANT HAVE THE ROBOT - he told me just in "case" it was cancer my Fibroid 11x10x9 would be too big to cut up and suck out. Has anyone heart of this reasoning? Not using the RObot could very well keep me off my feet at almost 60yrs old for half a year.

Dr. Steren was recommended by my OBGYN as a second opinion on a hysterectomy due to my excessive fibroid problems/history. He met with me and my husband and recommended many alternatives to treat my situation, including a daVinci robot assisted total laparoscopic hysterectomy. He and the office staff were incredibly professional, knowledgeable and patient with questions while we made our decision to proceed with the TALH. On the day of surgery he was friendly and upbeat and re-explained everything. At my 2-week post-op visit, he and the office staff again were superior in their professionalism and patience through my questions about the procedure and my recovery. Overall, they made the whole experience much less anxiety-provoking than it could have been and I completely appreciate the expertise he provided in my medical care.

OMG, I would crawl on my hands & knees through the La Brea Tar Pits for Dr. Steren. He performed my DaVinci-assisted bilateral hystero-salping-oopherectomy in July 2012. He treats each patient as though she is the only one he is treating. GREAT bedside manner; kind; compassionate; caring. Dr. Steren is the best, hands down.

Gosh, no joke, Dr. Steren is just as good as everyone says, at least as far as bedside manner and compassion. I was so nervous going in to talk about a hysterectomy and he put me at ease. He asked me questions, he listened when I talked, he made suggestions, and he calmed my fears. No rush to surgery if it isn't really required. I am hoping to change to be a permanent patient (I went for a 2nd opinion coming from a surgery-happy gyno) because his demeanor is so wonderful. His staff is lovely and easy-going, and the staff on the phone was equally as nice. I could not recommend him more for a 2nd opinion, and I would wholly recommend him for his excellent and kind manner. Wonderful experience.

I saw Dr. Steren after having a extremely traumatic experience with my cone biopsy at Johns Hopkins: they provoked me an infection, severe stenosis and hematometra having to be twice at the ER and in addition they removed only a small part of the tumor (Adenocarcinoma) leaving the invasive part in me. I was in despair! but I was so lucky to find Dr. Steren.
Dr. Steren cured the hematometra (which the ER didn't, they just prescribed opioids but Dr. Stern made a procedure that removed all the collection of blood from the uterus and allowed me to be pain free without meds), he reviewed the pathology slides, ordered an MRI and customized the intervention to assure it was as minimal as possible but making sure that all the cancerous cells were removed and that I didn't have metastasis. Dr. Steren performed a DaVinci radical modified hysterectomy with lymph node dissection. I am amazed about how well and fast I am healing! And he removed ALL the cancerous cells and now I am possibly cured!!
Dr. Albert Stern is not only an amazing true clinician (not a protocol follower like most drs are) and a very skilled surgeon, he has also been very sensitive to my feelings of loss and he is very attuned, empathic and available, a rare gift among surgeons.

Dr. Steren is simplyTHE best ob/gyn/onc surgeon in the area. I was very worried about any type of surgery and Dr. Steren placed me fully at ease. He explained how the surgery was performed using the daVinci robot and that I was an ideal candidate when other MDs stated I'd probably be converted to total abdominal with a 3-4 month recovery time. Dr. Steren performed a total hysterectomy with bilateral salpingo oopherectomy and within 3 days of this major surgery, I'm already up climbing stairs, walking around and in less pain than before the surgery. The incisions are tiny and I'm healing quickly. Please do not hesitate to call on Dr. Steren for any type of ob/gyn/onc. pelvic surgical procedure - you'll be happy you did!

There were only 2 doctors in the USA that I could choose from that treated my condition. I chose Dr. Steren because his office was closest to me (the other doctor was in Texas). Boy was that a lucky choice!!! There is absolutely NO OTHER DOCTOR I would EVER see. From regular checkups to major surgery- and everything in between. And with a sweet, kind, understanding, sense of humor to boot!!! What more can one ask for? ABSOLUTELY TOP OF THE CLASS!!!

I needed surgery on my ovary and went to Dr Steren-he is a beautiful man-he explained all my options clearly and in a relaxed manner-he gave me his recommendation-and it turned out to be the exact best thing!! All my questions were answered-like he had all the time in the world to spend with me(and didn't have a waiting room filled with patients).

It was a wait in his office but so worth it!!

I LOVE this man-I was very scared when I was told I needed a specialist. I went to Georgetown and Johns Hopkins first. I felt like I was on a conveyor belt. Then I went to a doctor who was in a big pelvic surgery group-that was unpleasant. I finally found Dr Steren after asking a doctor in my book club who had surgery with Dr Steren and told me to go see him.

I had an ovarian tumor-he was straightforward and knowledgeable but also kind and compassionate. He listened to me! But best of all he performed my surgery(which turned out to be cancer) in a supremely expert manner. He saved my other ovary and uterus and I am now 6mos pregnant-my first!
Words cannot express my gratitude-and his wonderful bedside manner and expertise made a nerveshattering experience as good as possible-I would recommend him to any woman who needs expert gynecologic care

just the best surgeon-with the davinci he can simply do procedures and have the best outcomes that other gynecologists can't match. I had surgery with Dr Steren after researching my options for months. He knows women..he makes each one feel as if she is the most important patient-notlike some offices where you feel like you are part of a production line or cattle heard. Sometimes he runs long but he is worth the wait!!!!!

He did robot surgery and removed a large tumor from my belly. I first went to another doctor who said he did advanced laparoscopy. I did not like him and and was referred to Dr. Steren. He was wonderful. Before surgery he explained everything to me and gave me all my options. The other doctor just wanted to tell me what to do. He then did my surgery and I feel amazing. I went home from the hospital that very same day. My primary doctor says no one can do surgery like Dr. Steren

I am a 40 year old who needed fibroid tumors removed from my uterus before my doctor would do in-vitro. My doctor referred me to Dr Steren-he was great before-during-and after surgery! He explained everthing so i could understand exactly what was needed, and what surgery was planned.

When I went back to my doctor he did a sonogram and said my uterus looked perfect after surgery!
2 months ago I gave birth to a healthy baby girl-I had no problems during my pregnancy and had a normal birth.

I attribute this success to Dr Steren's excellent work!!!

Dr. Steren is absolutely one of the best gyne/oncologists in the U.S. He treated my daughter, who also has a neurological disorder, for an aggressive form of endometriosis which she has suffered the effects of for more than 5 yrs. She went to 14 doctors prior to a referral to Dr. Steren and he was successfully able to operate on her using minimally invasive technology which no other prior physicians would consider. It was a difficult period but Dr. Steren is nothing short of amazing. I have recommended him to my neighbor in Chicago who also has this condition. He is confident, professional and knows his "craft" like non-other!

Dr. Steren is a gynecological oncologist. I was referred to him as I was being diagnosed with ovarian cancer. He has a very kind and reassuring manner, which immediately helped to quell my panic.

He is also very experienced with surgery for gyn cancers, and I think he did a very good job with my hysterectomy. Going into the surgery, he wasn't yet sure it was cancer, but he was very thorough in the surgery and removed all visible signs of disease, which is very important.
