Dr. Giammetta has been very helpful to me and answered all the questions I have asked even when she thought I was driving myself crazy asking questions I really didnt need to worry about for one reason or another. When my options were laid before me and I gave my reasoning for turning down different ones, she didnt argue with me or tell me why she thought I was wrong or tell me that she would not do the hysterectomy simply because I am only 31yrs old. I am done having children, and I suffer heavy, painful periods and after having a D&C (which she did suggest first) there was NO change and so that left me (because I turned all others down) with one choice, hysterectomy...Dr. Giammetta did not PUSH other options on me, her bedside manner is amazing and I feel she truly does care and takes the time to best inform her patients of the diagnosis, their choices and then the information about the choice they have made. I would not feel comfortable with any other dr...I trust her immensely. She doesnt make me feel like I am stupid when I ask questions..she just answers them.
I first went to her when I was pregnant with my daughter and in my 8th month (had to switch drs for insurance reasons) and she and the team of midwives were awesome, gentle, kind, attentive, caring and professional. I went for my 4wks check up and never went back (I lost insurance and couldnt pay out of pocket). My mother ended up with a tumor that turned out to be cancer in her uterus and that kept me from going even longer (afraid i might get it). I began having VERY heavy periods about(late) 2003 (through super size and super plus size tampons in about 12-30 min for 2-4 hours at least one day of my period each month, migraines, cramps that put me in the floor, etc). I called Giammetta's office, made an appt (spring 2004 after hubby got insurance) shared with her my issues and she suggested a D&C, I panicked after reading the info and said NO. Periods calmed down for about a year...later in Oct 2006....problems came back with a vengence so much so that I began missing work from the fact that I was soaking my clothes from the SUDDEN gush of my period. I called her back, went in for ultrasound and opted to do the D&C...she was comforting as I began to cry in her office and she could see that I was very upset by the choices laid before me, but remained informative sharing both pros and cons to EACH option I had. We did the D&C in early December 06 and just before Christmas for the follow up visit, decided that because I said no to BCP (give me migraines) no to IUD(personal reasons) and she said the progesterone pill is usually the least effective with the worst mood swing side effects my husband and I both said NO :-) ablation was not an option given family history of heavy bleeders so that really left me with either doing rounds of hormones to try to control the bleeding or hysterectomy. I chose the surefire way that I wouldnt bleed anymore and while she agrees that I am VERY young to... [more..]
