I went to two other oncologists before him and they terrified me. They just told me what they were going to do to me and gave me no choices. Dr. Lin, at City of Hope, laid out the treatment plan but gave me choices. Previous doctors had told me that I was in the early stages of ovarian cancer, but they would give me a hysterectomy just in case. Dr. Lin agreed to do extensive biopsies and see if the cancer had spread. I felt that if it was 80-90 percent possible that it hadn't spread, I didn't want the hysterectomy. I lost the gamble, as it had spread to the uterus, so he had to go back a month later and do a hysterectomy. Again, he let me make the choice not to have a total hysterectomy. It's been six years and I am fine. He is a dedicated doctor who would come to visit me at 7 a.m. and come by again at 7 p.m. when I was in the hospital. He also fought my insurance for me when they wanted to skimp on hospital care and he won.
