I met Dr. Wharton when I was pregnant with my first child. He was extremely upbeat, thorough, and always gave me as much time as I needed for my (numerous!) questions. He treated me through my 2 pregnancies, and then I moved too far away from him to keep him as my gynecologist.
A couple of years ago, I had an unnecessary and bothced hysterectomy by a local doctor. I decided to travel the distance back to Dr. Wharton to help me, as I've always trusted him implicitly. He did a wonderful job repairing the damage that had been done. 12 days after that surgery, I hemorrhaged from an internal incision. He does not trust my local hospital, and his wife told me she had to talk him out of travelling to where I was. As he knew that my husband was out of town, he called me at home after I was released from the hospital. He called every 2 hours until I told him I would promise to call him if anything was wrong!
I am having another pelvic surgery soon, and this time I went straight to him. He is worth the drive. He is very skilled surgically, is highly regarded by his peers, and other doctors ask if they can assist him. He will have 2 urologists assist at my upcoming surgery, and will follow me very closely afterward, as I tend not to heal very well from these surgeries. He is very comforting to my husband as well.
How many highly skilled surgeons will rub your arm and say soothing things to you as you are about to go under?! It is hard to find this combo of technical skill and bedside manner in a doctor.
