Dr. Goffe obtained his Doctorate of Medicine from the University of Washington in 1962. He interned at the Harborview Medical Center and performed his internal medicine residency at the University of Washington Affiliated Hospitals. He was a Fellow in Dermatology at the University of Washington from 1966-1968.
He is a board certified dermatologist, with credentials from both the American Board of Dermatology and the American Board of Dermatopathology. He is currently a Clinical Professor, Department of Medicine, Division of Dermatology, at the University of Washington School of Medicine. He has practiced dermatology in Seattle since 1968.
Dr. Goffe worked at the United States Communicable Disease Center in Atlanta, in the Epidemic Intelligence Service, from 1964 to 1966, and he helped launch the World Health Organization’s smallpox eradication program in West Africa. In addition, Dr. Goffe served as a Peace Corps physician in Turkey.
Dr. Goffe has made numerous contributions to improving treatment of diseases such as psoriasis. His clinical research has included the early study of Psoralen ultraviolet A treatment (PUVA), starting in 1974, psoriasis, and Phase II, III, and IV testing of the new biologic drugs for psoriasis treatment. In 1998, Dr. Goffe and Dr. Phil Mease were the first dermatologists to use Enbrel® in psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis (phase II study) and their research on the topic was published in Lancet in July 2000.
Locally, Dr. Goffe started the Psoriasis Treatment Center in Seattle in 1975. He now runs the Psoriasis Treatment & Research Center within Dermatology Associates, PLLC, in Seattle.
