The importance of a family doctor is often understated. I switched to Dr. Odland when a pediatrician sent me to him with my teenager with a wart-- he would remove it faster than she would as he took more drastic steps. I wound up taking my whole family over as the warts spread through the kids and then cold season hit. He's always busy but he still leaves his schedule open for seeing people right away.
It's great to have a doctor who is able to see everyone in your family. He's great with kids and is the kind of person I like to take advice from on parenting-- he has two of his own who he just put through medical school. Both had been in our local schools and had the same teachers as my kids. His wife works in the clinic and they are just nice, wonderful people.
The biggest difference with a family doctor as opposed to a pediatrician is that if you get a child with pink eye and you wind up having it, he can prescribe for you if you are a patient as well! He knows our family history and knows what to look for and tells the teens to remember certain things when they get older. They listen to him.
The kids all like him. I knew I struck gold with him when i was downtown and saw him and a few of my kids yelled that "That's Dr. Odland!" They ran up to him and gave him high fives.
He's extremely friendly, knowledgeable and great with referrals. I am so glad that his children have followed him into medicine and just wish he'd procreated more-- we need more really fantastic people like Duane Odland.
