Casey M (Patient) 11-06-2016
I was a surgical candidate for a full hysterectomy and I was possibly suffering from Ovarian Remnant syndrome. He set up surgery with a second specialist to be in the OR with him. He took time to explain exactly what is going to happen in the operating room. He and his office staff took the time postop to address and discuss all of my concerns. The hospital staff at Celebration - Florida Hospital is second to none, as well as the facility itself. It was well worth the 2 hour drive from my home.

Doctor McCarus is the most caring Doctor I have ever met. After almost three years of agony I was told about him by another patient of his. My first sprung went great, he listened to all of my problems and concerns and I walked out feeling hopeful. 3 weeks later I was having surgery. I was scared the day of the surgery and Dr McCarus came by to say good morning and I explained my worries and he took my hand and assured me I had nothing to worry about and that everything would be just fine. I am 13 days post op and wonderful. I could not have asked for a better doctor.

Dr. Steven McCarus is a genuine care giver. He is sensitive to the issues that woman face and is willing to listen to you and never rushes when you have questions. He is a master at Laparoscopic Surgery and I'm so blessed to have found him for my LAVH. His staff is equally understanding and helpful. I knew I was in the best hands possible and everyone knew how to ease my fears. Dr. McCarus is a 3 hour drive north of me in FL and I'd have driven further just to know I'd be in his care. My husband was equally impressed with his knowledge and reputation.

I was suffering from severe pain for years. Heavy periods. Mood swings affecting my daily living. I had fibroids,,cyst and endometriosis . After trying several treatments with my GYN he determined all other options were exhausted and Recommended I undergo a hysterectomy. Unfortunately I felt I could not take six weeks off of work. It was my GYN that recommended Dr. Mccarus who performed a procedure that allowed a return to work in two weeks if my job did not require heavy work which did not since I work in an office I do no lifting. All my records were sent to him. I had two appointments then scheduled the surgery. It was done October 2012. It's a year now let me say dr mccarus is the best thing that ever happened to me. The day of surgery when I woke up they gave me pain meds. That was the only time. The next day I was sent home. I was very cautious and have a good family that took care of me by not letting me do anything at home. Since October 2012 I am pain free.THANK YOU Dr. mccarus. Ten days later I went to work. My scars are minimal, certainly even his technic for stitching are short of miraculous.

I came to Dr. McCarus for a second opinion. My original gynecologist had stated he would perform a hysterectomy if I wanted him to but did not believe it to be medically necessary despite the multitude of symptoms I had been experiencing for years (which were adversely affecting my quality of life) and multiple issues revealed by imaging studies. I did not want someone, though, who would simply agree to perform a hysterectomy if I wanted one; I wanted someone to give me an honest answer as to what was in my best medical interest. Based on my symptoms and imaging studies, Dr. McCarus recommended a total laparoscopic hysterectomy with removal of everything but one ovary. In February 2013 I had the surgery and woke up actually wondering where the incisions were. He had said there would be three and there were only two, and they were extremely minor. His nurse was even impressed! Dr. McCarus chose to leave in both ovaries because he said the one he had planned to remove didn't need to be removed after all, and he wanted to make sure I had as much left intact as possible for hormonal purposes. I went home in a day and used hardly any of the pain medication prescribed - didn't need it! I followed his instructions for resting and minimizing my activity, which was extremely difficult for me to do because I am a single mom, self-employed and always on the go, always taking care of something around the house or yard, but I'm so glad I did! Any questions I had while recovering were promptly answered via phone call, and when I was worried about a possible postsurgical complication, they got me in immediately - within an hour - and it turned out the problem was nothing at all. Dr. McCarus and his staff were always so pleasant, helpful and caring. I'm now six months out from the surgery and you almost can't even tell I ever had it. The incision made in my belly button was actually the second I've had (I had my tubes tied back in '96) and his incision made my old one look ten times better! And my belly incision is so light that you wouldn't even know I ever had surgery. I'm guessing in another six months you won't even be able to see it! As for my old doctor who said I didn't need a hysterectomy - turns out I had endometriosis, adenomyosis, cervical cysts, uterine fibroids, ovarian cysts, adhesions, uterine polyps and a uterine tumor to boot - I was a mess!! And my uterus was lying smack on my bladder making me have to go to the bathroom all the time. The surgery has been a blessing beyond anything I can describe, truly a gift from God via the hands of Dr. McCarus. I am pain free, the bladder problems from my uterus laying on top of it are gone, no periods, no early-onset menopause since I was able to keep my ovaries and practically no scarring. I can't tell you what a huge difference it has made in my quality of life!! Dr. McCarus' Christian faith is evident in his practice and in his life. He treated me with a level of kindness, respect ... [more..]

after Going from doctor to doctor I had a friend that recommended him. When I went to see him his office is beautiful his staff is wonderful and he told me things others did not. I wanted a simple surgery and I wanted to be out of the hospital less than a day. He has trained 4000 students around the world on the way that he does his surgery which is different, And is more helpful for women. He calls it thet McCarus less invasive surgery. I was also told incorrect things by the other doctors I was seeing, And he cleared all of that up. He's at the celebration Hospital in celebration Florida

I feel that this doctor gave me my life back he was referred to me by his former patient I had been having issues for several years, and since he has performed my complete hysterectomy, I can say that the quality of life that I have is impeccable, and I am ready to live the life that I should have years prior. Thank you Dr. McCarus.

I highly recommend Dr Steven McCarus for Hysterectomy!! I learned of my fibroids through my previous OB/GYN in May 2010 and was told that "We'd keep an eye on them". At that time I was told by the administrator by phone that the large fibroid was the size of a golf ball and I had several smaller ones. When I was checked a year later the doctor told me it was the size of a tennis ball last year (not a golf ball) and it was now the size of a grapefruit! She was not certain with the procedure she would need to perform due to the size. I left worried and decided to try some homeopath mineral drink. After getting tired of drinking high doses of the shake for 6 weeks I returned for another ultrasound and there was little change. This time I left planning to have the procedure but frustrated with her uncertainty of whether she could do LH or full abdominal incision. She was leaning toward full abdominal but said she would not know until she got in there "Sometimes I am surprised when I get in there and can do the LH".
Two weeks later I was referred by a friend to Dr Steven McCarus and was told he was the best. I did some research and learned that he had his own technique that he tought to other surgeons world wide. I was in his office a few weeks later and I was ready to schedule my surgery without any hesitation. Dr McCarus was confident despite the size of my 20 week uterus that he could perform the LH. I did not feel that there would be any surprises.
He did not let me down and I had a super simple LH (for me anyway) and a very quick recovery. It has been less than a week and I have had minimal pain and feel like I am ready to return to work. I will take his advice and wait the full week, I highly recommend Dr. McCarus and his surgical team. I wish I had heard about him sooner so I would not have lived with the anxiety and discomfort for 3 months.

I had Dr. McCarus perform a laprascopic supracervical hysterectomy on 12/6/10. He also removed my tubes during surgery and checked out the state of both ovaries. I feel extremely lucky to have had him perform this surgery, my recovery went exactly as he said it would, I feel fabulous today - 8 days post op - and the nursing staff at Celebration Hosp were wonderful! This whole experience has been positive and I would highly recommend him to anyone considering any type of gyn surgery. He is a leader in the field of gyn surgery and teaches other MD's his technique!

Mr. McCarus performed a LSH BSO for me. I did a lot of research on the both him and the procedure, and by the time of the surgery, I was very comfortable.

When I was being prepped in pre-op, someone asked me if I was scared. I said no- I was completely confident.

He is a very skilled surgeon, and my recovery was short, and uneventful. I couldn't believe how quickly I recovered.

Dr McCarus will also go the extra mile to answer ALL your questions regarding the procedure. His office staff is very responsive and courteous as well.

If you are looking for a great doctor, and a hysterectomy looms on your horizon, you may want to talk to Dr. McCarus.

Dr. McCarus is an excellent gynecological surgeon. I've undergone 2 laparoscopic pelvic procedures for endometriosis and ovarian cysts and have been very pleased with his work. He is very friendly and personable.

My only criticism is that he seems very rushed, and for both of my recent office visits I've had to wait 45 to 60 minutes before seeing him. I understand that this was because he went overtime in surgery before seeing me, so, my suggestion would be to NOT schedule office hours until later, to allow for more time in the O.R. However, these things would not stop me from seeking his services again or recommending him highly to others needing pelvic gynecological surgery.

I could talk all day about the things that went above call of duty. Thanks to all. Linda marshall

LAPAROSCOPIC SUPRA-CERVICAL HYSTERECTOMY: Dr. McCarus was highly recommended to me by my personal gynecologist. It was because, I was told, Dr. McCarus is a leading surgeon in his field and works at a hospital that is a teaching hospital and I was told he has access to the finest, updated equipment. When I went to consult with Dr. McCarus, he was upbeat, positive, friendly and professional, and he helped me come to a decision that would be the best way to handle my situation. I had been dealing with a fibroid tumor that happened to be the kind that caused pain and constant bleeding to the point of severe anemia. My personal gynecolgist had been working with me for 2 years trying to help me with every possible avenue to save the uterus. When it became apparent I needed a hysterectomy, he sent me to Dr. McCarus. My doctor said that he himself could do the surgery but knowing the reputation of Dr. McCarus, he opted to send me to him. In February of 2006, Dr. McCarus performed a laparoscopic supra-cervical hysterectomy. I went home the day after the surgery, the pain from it was minimal, I was back to work in 2 weeks. No surgery is fun and there is always a recovery period but I feel confident the recovery time was shortened because of Dr. McCarus' competence and expertise in his field.
