Don't be fooled by the name. Shawn is a female!!! I was surprised that I didn't have a hard time finding a female OB/Gyn...it's not often that you find one. As I have a history of sexual abuse by my step-father, I am not comfortable with male doctors, and when I explained this to Dr. Severson, she was MORE THAN understanding. She is knowledgable and personable. She has a GREAT bedside manner, too. I thought that I'd have regrets about my TAH, but with all the information and support she gave me, I don't regret it at all!! I've had my "friend" since I was 7 years old, that's almost 25 years of dealing with these problems. Most people thought that having a TAH before I turned 32 was pretty drastic. But after dealing with abnormal periods, heavy bleeding, BAD cramping, acne, facial hair....enough was enough and Dr. Severson was the best person to help me make my decisions. I wholeheartedly recommend her to anyone needing a doctor in the OB/Gyn department.

After a difficult first pregnancy which ended up in a c-section, I set out to find a doctor who would help me achieve a VBAC (Vaginal Birth After Cesearan). Dr. Severson was highly recommended by the birth professionals in town and they were right. She was an incredible doctor. She is very caring and personable and has a calming spirit. She is very concerned with the emotional side of pregnancy and birth as well as the mechanics of it. She was very honest about the possible complications I could face without trying to scare me. Although there is a list of reasons why I didn't make a "good" VBAC candidate she gave me every chance to be successful and never treated me differently than anyone else. She was awesome during the birth...even though she had been on her own maternity leave until a few days before I went into labor, almost all my wishes for my birth were followed. She presented me with information and options and let me make decisions and what I was comfortable with as far as breaking my waters, pain management, etc. She let me push as I wished and was very relaxed during the delivery. I did have a successful VBAC and was thrilled to hold my baby right after birth! As my baby was later hospitalized with a congential heart defect, I was very glad to not be recovering from major surgery myself while sitting at her bedside. Anyone would be lucky to have Dr. Severson as their OB!

My family practice doctor referred me to Dr. Shawn at age 46. Since I was a teen I had struggled with extreme monthly cramps. Dr. Shawn listened to my story and all the things I had tried, meds I'd been on, everything - all with no success. At the end of the consutation she said those words I had been waiting 20 years to hear. "I think the best solution is a hysterectomy." Finally! She scheduled me for the next week. My life has been wonderfully pain free for the last 2 and 1/2 years. I encouraged my daugther to see her after almost losing her first child to pregnancy induced hypertension. I am so pleased with the level of care my daugther is receiving. Her son is due in 10 weeks and it's all going so well under Dr. Shawn's watchful eye. She is a very compassionate, caring doctor; easy to talk to; a good listener. Whenever someone asks me about doctors, I can't say enough good about her. I recommend her to anyone who is looking for a doctor who gives excellent care with that little bit of extra personal touch.
