I would highly recommend Dr. Harkins. He is the kindest Doctor I have ever met. He made me feel like I was his top priority. He took his time and answered all my questions, made me feel extremely comfortable with the decisions we were making regarding my body and surgery. He called my home before my 1st appointment because he knew I had questions and concerns and did not want me to be stressed all weekend before my appointment. On the day of my surgery, he came in to pre- op to reassure me, I was so nervous. After surgery he came to my room twice to check on me. He has called my home twice to check on me since surgery. I had an issue that I was concerned about so my husband emailed him and he responded within 5 minutes. Dr. Harkins is not like any other doctor I have ever met. He goes above and beyond what's expected. At this point I have so much gratitude and respect for him. Truly a remarkable doctor!! As far as the surgery, I had the DaVinci Robotic hysterectomy and a labiaplasty. I woke up with minimal pain and I am 10 days post- op and still have very little pain. My surgery was 1.5 hours and I was back home the next morning. I have had no complications and I have no regrets. Dr. Harkins is the best of the best! Check out his biography and credentials on the Penn State Hershey Medical Center website.

Dr. Harkins takes his time to make sure he is LISTENING to what you are saying, not just what he assumes you're saying. He takes everything into careful consideration and then goes forward decisively, with you every step of the way. I found hope and then relief after seeing him and I'd reccomend him to ANYBODY suffering from GYN issues.

Dr. Gerald Harkins is an AMAZING physician/surgeon and I feel so lucky to be one of his patients at the Hershey Medical Center. A few years ago I became his patient as a result of reoccuring abdominal and pelvic pain. I had previously been told that it was a digestive issue and had been subjected to many invasive tests. Dr. Harkins listened to my symptoms and immediately said that it sounded like endometriosis. After educating me about this condition I was amazed that he was describing everything that I had been experiencing for years. He performed laproscopic surgery and my symptoms improved.

Just recently I was experiencing upper abdominal problems that were again subjecting me to more invasive tests that all came back negative. I emailed Dr. Harkins and asked if my symptoms could be endometriosis related and he said that he would like to see me. He gave me the name and number of a specific person to call to schedule an appointment and I was seen within 10 days. He assured me that I wasn't crazy and that my undiagnosed symptoms could indeed be attributed to endometriosis. He validated everything that I was experiencing and I finally felt like I was really being heard and understood. Together we decided that it was time for a hysterectomy to end my problems with endometriosis.

Dr. Harkins makes himself accessible to his patients by email, so he can be contacted anytime with questions. He has an excellent relationship with his patients and treats them like good friends. I have never felt so comfortable with a doctor and I trust him completely as a surgeon. His staff is equally as special and warm-hearted. I hope that he realizes the positive impact he has on his patients and how valued he is as a doctor.

I had a laparoscopy in September 2010 and found out I had endometriosis. Dr. Harkins was very helpful - he explained what endometriosis was and answered all of my questions. He has a great bedside manner. He is cheerful and kind. In addition, I had no complications and recovered very quickly from my surgery. He did a great job with the surgery - My scars are very small and barely visible. I would recommend him to anyone.

I had a TLH (total laparoscopic hysterectomy), bilateral salpongooophorectomy and cystoscopy. Dr. Harkins is very friendly. He has a good bedside manner. He came to visit me before I went into the OR and when a went to my room after recovery.

Dr Harkins did my TLH on 3-25-09. He also did an exploratory surgery on 2-4-09 where he found fibroids and endometriosis. He was very caring and took his time to explain what was going to happen. He had no problem answering all the questions my husband and I asked. He was always in a good mood which helped to keep me in a good mood; I was so scared. After the surgery he still kept answering questions.

I had a laparoscopic supracervical hysterectomy performed by Dr. Gerald Harkins at Milton S. Hershey Medical Center in Hershey, PA, on January 2, 2009. I could not have had a better surgeon than Dr. Harkins. I felt completely safe in his care. I had previously seen two gynecologists who told me that a laparoscopic procedure would not be possible for my situation, and that I had no option but to have a total abdominal hysterectomy. I had a very large uterine fibroid, and the other doctors told me it was too large for a minimally invasive procedure. I am so fortunate to have found Dr. Harkins, who assured me that the minimally invasive laparoscopic procedure was not only possible for me, but that I was also a good candidate for such surgery. He successfully removed my large uterus and fibroid, which together measured 20 x 17 cm, all laparoscopically, so that I have only three small incisions.

Dr. Harkins has my highest recommendation! He is truly an amazing surgeon, but beyond that, he is also easily accessible, and is willing to spend as much time as necessary with his patients. I never felt rushed by him, and he always returned my telephone calls or emails immediately. I've never seen him without a smile on his face and he is continuosly reassuring and comforting. I cannot find enough positive words to describe this incredible doctor, and I feel so fortunate to be a recipient of his extraordinary care.

Dr. Harkins is AMAZING. He is doing my hysterectomy in February. His bedside manner is phenomenal. He makes you feel like he has all day to answer your questions. He has called and emailed me prior to my first exam, to chat a bit unrushed (his words). His office staff is also amazing. They are all incredibly helpful and friendly. Also, my waiting room time was minimal.

It's rare to find a doctor like Dr. Harkins these days. I'm so grateful to be one of his patients!

Dr Harkins is a great doctor! He got me in to see him within a week of having an ultrasound that my family doctor told me showed a abnormal growth. He immediatly let me know it was not cancer, got me in quickly for laproscopic surgery to see what was going on. I will be having my hysterectomy in July and I have no worries knowing he is my doctor! I also referred a friend to him that was having similar problems and when I told him that his office couldnt schedule her to see him for 2 month he had me give her his personal email address and got her in to see him within a few days. I could gush all day about him! He makes you feel like you are his only patient, like he has all day for you. He lets you email him with any questions you have. I love him!

Dr. Harkins will be performing my hysterectomy in February. He is the Chief of Minimally Invasive Surgery at Milton S. Hershey Medical Center in Hershey, PA.

Dr. Harkins listened patiently as I told him about my symptoms. He explained his diagnosis to me and allowed time for me to ask questions and didn't rush me. He was genuinely caring. Dr. Harkins personally emailed and called me to tell me the results of my biopsy, ultrasound, and labs. How many doctors do that?!

I had a LAVH on June 6, 2007. Dr. Harkins was my physician and I would highly recommend him to anyone with gynecological issues. He treats you as if you are his only patient. I had some problems after my surgery and he was so accomodating to my needs. He keeps in touch via email and phone calls. I am a healthcare provider myself and he has the interpersonal skills that makes him even more successful. He's the best!

Dr. Harkins was the only doctor who helped me with my surgery questions and options. He is very understanding and listens and he followed up with me & my hysterectomy surgery in the hospital and at home. I would recommend him to any of my friends who are in need of this thype surgery. I also needed an ov after 5 days from an allergic reaction and he saw me as soon as I called on the phone.

Dr. Harkins is a fantastic surgeon. My total hysterectomy was done all laparoscopically, and the recovery was amazingly easy. My pain was immediately relieved right after surgery - it was miraculous. Both he and PS Hershey Medical Center are the model of how it should be in medicine. I will never go anywhere else.
