I was told that due to a severe work related injury of my left arm I could never return to work in my chosen profession. I was partially paralyzed and had atrophy. Suddenly one day it felt as if something snapped inside my arm.
I had horrible pain and an estimated 30% loss of function.
Nothing was helping. I could not tolerate even air touching my arm. I feared becoming addicted to pain medication.
Dr Brian Bowyer a physical Medicine Specialist at OSU in Ohio, believed I could, with rehab, return to my profession.
He was encouraging and specific about what needed to be done. He was supportive and helped me believe it was possible. He communicated with my home hospital to implement the plan of care.
Though I had improper rehab 11 years before, through following his plan of care I improved steadily and regained function. He also assisted me in using a TENS unit instead of pain medication that others had encouraged.
The pain improved as well. I still use only the TENS.
Through his guidance, education, and care I was eventually able to return to work.
I continue to do well.
This gentleman is an awesome physician and human being as well. He cares about his patients as well as for them.
