Dr. B. was my 2nd opinion doctor whom I happened to find on my own via reading patients reviews online and by talking to his office staff by telephone.
I was really put out by my 1st opinion doctor's bedside manner & his mind seemed more on retirement.
My history; 48 y/o healthy female with dysfunctional uterine bleeding for 3 years, HX of 4 pregnancies-2 vaginal deliveries, 2 C-Section deliveries. After weighing all the pros and cons then having discussed them with Dr. B., I opted for a total abdominal hysterectomy. My reasoning was due to the size of my uterus, scar tissue from previous C-Sections, and I didn't want to start off having a laparoscopy then end up with an abdominal-it seemed most logical to start off with the abdominal approach even though it meant a longer recovery which was completely my choice. He answered all of my questions and kept asking if I had anymore to ask. He treated me with respect and spoke simply in layman's terms. I could sense he loves what he does by his thorough explanations, asks questions, great listener, & excellent bedside manner.
I had my procedure at Fallbrook Hospital. The procedure went well under general anesthesia. I had my IV & urinary catheter out within 24 hours because I was doing so well. By day #2, I was ready to go home even though I was encouraged to stay for 3 days if I felt I needed to. Dr. B. visited with me each morning after my surgery & shared how everything with the procedure went and was sincerely interested in my well being.
Week #2 post op: I had my first post op appt with him & he again explained things he discussed prior to the procedure to remind me of my progress & where I was on the recovery scale. He shared the pathology results (no cancer, Praise God)-my uterus weighed almost 2.5 times the normal, my ovaries were scar laden and contained cysts which was not consistent with the findings of my prior most recent ultrasounds which showed no cysts.
I'm 3.5 weeks into my recovery and doing well. I have some hormonal changes occurring due to onset of menopause from the surgery but they were previously all explained and I feel I am on track & healing well. As Dr. B. put it "You're ahead of the curve" in my recovery. I am listening to my bodies cues and doing well. Dr. B. is an exceptional surgeon with an excellent bedside manner & I would not hesitate to recommend him to my family & friends. As it was mentioned in a previous commentary, yes, Dr. B. believes in prayer which was a plus in my surgeon selection process. You'll be in great hands with Dr. Bianchi!
