JD Loeser MD

Dr. Loeser helped me tremendously! I suffered with IC (Interstitial Cystitis) for several years. IC nearly destroyed my bladder walls and my life. The pain I suffered was horrific. Other physicians who tried to treat my pain did what they could to help. I used the strongest of the strongest of narcotics. They eased the pain a bit. But, not enough for me to live a pain LESS life.
Dr. Loeser and the team in Uro-gynecology at the UW came up with a treatment plan. I was put through a LOT of testing including psychological testing at the UW Pain Clinic.
After "passing" their criteria I was set up with Dr. Loeser who then surgically implanted an intrathecal pump. The pump is filled with opioid medication that is delivered round the clock in the intrathecal space in the spine.
The procedure itself was not an easy one! I was hospitalized for three days to test prior to implantation. Then there were 10 more days which included one day of surgery to run a catheter (tube) from my belly area into the spine. A few days later the actual pump was implanted in my abdomen. The pain was immense for a few weeks following the two surgeries.
After recovering from surgery my life changed for ever.
The first drug in my pump was Morphine. That worked ok, but not well enough. We moved up to Dilaudid which I had a few reactions to. The last stop he said was Sufentanil. The most potent opioid around. Finally that medicine is working very well for me. I am not pain free, I am Pain Less. I am able to enjoy my life again.
Dr. Loeser saved my life! He is one of very few physicians in the state of Washington that can implant these devices.
I feel fortunate to have found him! He is very caring, honest, straightforward. He also has a very dry sense of humor!
I saw many students and staff admiring his work. They seem to look up to him like a God.
The only downfall to my story is that Dr. Loeser is a Professer. The UW is a teaching hospital. So I had close contact with 8 medical students/interns, most of them spoke very poor english. At times it wore me out trying to converse my needs with them.
I give thumbs up for Dr. JD LOESER!!!
