The first impression I got from Dr. Fothergill was that he's balding. How could it be? He's barely over 35. Did he intentionally get the receding hair line so he would look older than his real age?
He was recommended for my hysterectomy because of his expertise in the state-of-the-art TLH/BSOprocedure. The whole surgery is done laparoscopically and is one of the so-called minimally invasive procedures. I went home exactly 24 hours after I had checked in at the hospital.
The assistant surgeon I met during the pre-op appointment had mentioned to me that Dr. Fothergill is 'a highly sought-after doctor'. What impressed me most is the surgeon's genuine smile which put me completely at ease knowing that I will be in good hands.
After a 30-minute walk holding the IV pole at midnight - just 8 hours after I had waken up from the surgical procedure, I was visited by the resident doctor on duty. He told me that Dr. Fothergill had specifically asked him to check on me. How nice! I couldn't help mentioning it when I saw him the next morning during his rounds. He answered with the same genuine smiles - as a matter of fact, I don't seem to have ever seen him without a smile.
A good surgeon possesses expert knowlege and skills from his schooling and training. A 'smiling' surgeon has to have gained the confidence and 'manner' from either his rearing or a higher source.
I made a bundt cake for him at my 6-week check. He accepted it with the same, familiar smile on his face.
