It can be hard to find a quality doctor in a small town. Our town is so very fortunate that Dannie J. Gentry Jr, MD chose to practice here. As an OBGYN he is often dealing with frightened women, which adds a lot of pressure to the job. Dr Gentry has held my hand through a difficult pregnancy and three surgeries (tubal, endometrial ablation, LAVH) and "held my hand" is not a figure of speech. Not only is he a fabulous Dr, but his bedside manner is always top notch. He always takes time to answer questions and explain things thoroughly. He is professional but compassionate. He is willing to joke, but only if the patient is. Another important part of the quality care that Dr. Gentry provides is his staff. I have had doctors that I loved, with rude and callus staff. Walking in for an appointment at Gentry's office is like catching up with the girls. There are always smiles, kind words, and usually a laugh or two. On my last trip there I was leaving in tears because after three years of pain he had finally been the one to find the cause. His receptionist asked if I would sign the form stating I understood that a hysterectomy would leave me unable to bear children. I looked up at her and we both just laughed because she knew my medical history as well as I did, and what a silly formality the form was. It has been a blessing to have Dannie Gentry in my life for the last eight years, from my unplanned pregnancy to my hysterectomy. It is comforting to know my daughters have a gentle, trustworthy gynecologist waiting for them, in a few short years.
