I initially saw Dr. O'Bryan for an infertility consult. A few months later, he also did a diagnostic laparoscopy. He knew how much I wanted children, so his initial suggestion after the LAP was to surgically remove the fibroid and attempt in-vitro fertilization. Given the extent of my problems, I asked if a hysterectomy would be an option (my husband and I had already discussed adoption). It was obvious to me that Dr. O'Bryan thought the hysterectomy (including tubes/ovaries/cervix and appendix) was the better option, and was happy I asked about it. I will *forever* respect him for not suggesting the hysterectomy first.
I had my surgery a couple of days ago, and I am so pleased with the care and treatment from Dr. O'Bryan. He is fast, but *very* thorough, and does not take shortcuts. He is not afraid to stop doing something if he thinks it will cause further damage. (During my LAP, he'd tried to dilate my cervix and couldn't. After several attempts, he stopped trying for fear he might perforate my uterus.) He's not afraid to ask for a second opinion or help if he thinks it's warranted. (During my hysterectomy surgery, he found some endometrial tissue on my small bowel. He called a general surgeon to scrub in and take a look to make sure it would be ok to just leave it alone.)
Dr. O'Bryan is constantly cheerful, answers questions, and treats his patients as equal partners in their care. He doesn't "dumb down" answers, but neither does he use long technical terms that are difficult to understand. He's very knowledgeable and experienced in his field - he's the infertility expert at the clinic where he works.
I very definitely recommend this doctor to anyone in the Tallahassee, FL area.
