Eleven months ago, my husband had heart surgery. Five months ago, I had heart surgery. Needless to say, we haven't been the luckiest couple, but we have been lucky to find great doctors who seem to genuinely care about us, even though we are in that Medicare age group that no one wants to see. Dr. Acuff (yes his first name is really Tea) was recommended to us by our internist as someone who is no nonsense but compassionate and someone who does not waste time when you are sick and need to go to surgery. That was the case with my husband eleven months ago and the experience was complicated by the fact that in his previous surgery, he literally died on the table and had to be brought back to life.
Dr. Acuff replaced a valve in my husband's heart and did bypasses for it and did it all in 4 hours. I went to see my husband an hour after surgery and he was sitting up in the bed, did not have the tube in his mouth, and was talking with his nurses. After what happened with his knee surgery, I almost fell to MY knees. I was told by the nurses that Dr. Acuff is old school (a good thing apparently) and one of the best around and when I had my heart attack six months later, I knew who would be doing my surgery. Like my husband, I woke up suprised to be alive and suprised I wasn't hurting so bad I would want to jump off the bed. A little sore, but not even that sore. I went home three days later and I hope to never go through that again, but if I did, I know who to see.
The only thing I would ask of Dr. Acuff: SPEAK LOUDER! My hearing isn't the greatest, but my grandson speaks louder than you.
