Testimonials For Maggie YU MD by our Site Visitors: |
If you are looking for a wonderful Doctor look no more. I have been a patient for about 9 years. She doesn't just think in the box and looks at the whole picture. My favorite example to share is I had been dealing with some extreme pain. I had gone to my gynecologist and was told it was just pain from a lowered uterus and it sometimes just happens after having children. I went another year believing this. The pain was so severe I went to Dr. Yu and explained what was happening and boom she says, "It sounds like endrometriosis"! Had testing and sure enough. Had surgery and felt great.

Bioidentical Hormones, Finding the Right Doctor Makes a Big Difference
Hormone imbalances can cause irregular periods, PMS, anxiety, depression, fatigue, changes in labido, sleep disturbances, abdominal bloating, headaches, acne, infertility and many more common symptom.
Many patients are looking for a physician that can deal with hormones. There has been alot of press over the past decade on the rising popularity, safety, and efficacy of bioidentical hormones. Unfortunately medical school does not train doctors about how to interpret hormone profiles. Patients come to me very frustrated because their doctor won't order the right hormone profiles, or they're told they're in the normal range. However, it's clear that it's not whether the level is in the normal range, but how the hormones relate to each other. How does your estrogen, progesterone, testoterone, DHEA balance with each other. Naturopaths are trained in this, but not M.Ds.
Yet, it is very expensive to see a naturopath if it is not covered by your insurance, and their hormone testing can be expensive as well. However, if you are able to find a doctor who can order the same labs and interpret them for you, it is covered by your medical insurance. Patients asks me daily how best to find a doctor who is well trained with bioidentical hormones. The first thing to do is to contact you local compounding pharmacy and they can provide you with names of physicians in your area that can do that. Here in Portland, compounding pharmacies would include, Creative Compounds in Wilsonville, Lloyd Pharmacy at the Lloyd Center, and Beaverton Pharmacy in Beaverton.
I've been trained, and have done hormone profiles on my patients for over 7 years. I will order the right hormone labs, interpret the hormone profiles with my patient, and then review the treatment options for balancing the hormones. I'm skilled in the use of nonhormonal therapies, traditional pharmaceutical hormones, and bioidentical hormones made at compounding pharmacies. I like the balanced approach where I give a patient all the options for their hormonal condition and we come to a decision together on what works best for each particular patient.
Do your homework, read up on bioidentical hormones, call your local compounding pharmacy, see a naturopath or find a physician who can help diagnose and treat your hormone imbalances.
